And how it all began.
Ffos Las Racecourse became the first new National Hunt racecourse to be built in the United Kingdom for 80 years and is Wales’s third racecourse along with Chepstow and Bangor-On-Dee. Today, the track is dual purpose and stages Flat meetings throughout the summer months, with National Hunt meetings taking place for the rest of the year.
In 2018, Ffos Las was bought by Arena Racing Company (ARC) from the founder, Dai Walters. Throughout the short space of time that Ffos Las has been open, there have been numerous success stories through the gates, none more so than in 2011 when the prolific Sprinter Sacre burst onto the scenes winning his first Novice Hurdle under top jockey Barry Geraghty.
The fascinating ‘Spirit of the Race’ sculpture is one of the main focal points at Ffos Las. Situated in front of the Winners Enclosure it is a great meeting place as well as a great photo opportunity.
The Grandstand was opened by Welsh Rugby legend Jonathan Davies. Jonathan has strong links to the venue and is not only from the local village but also worked on the open cast mine.
The venue has grown and now boasts, conservation areas, solar farms, beautiful lakes, bridleways and the Diamond Jubilee tree plantation along with the racecourse.
